Edinburg Police Arrest Driver After Vehicle Strikes Light Pole, Knocks Down Power Lines

Staff Report
EDINBURG, TX — A 29-year-old man was arrested early Saturday after a crash that brought down power lines and temporarily closed a roadway, police said.
Officers were called around 6:35 a.m. Sept. 20 to Freddy Gonzalez Drive and Ann Street, where a vehicle had struck a light pole and left the scene. For public safety, the roadway was immediately shut down due to downed lines.

A short time later, police located the suspected vehicle, a damaged 2002 tan Ford F-150, near Sprague and 5th Avenue. The truck was occupied by Charles Parkinson, who sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Parkinson was taken into custody and now faces multiple charges, including:
- Driving While Intoxicated
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Duty on Striking Structure, Fixture, or Highway Landscaping
Police confirmed the roadway has since reopened.
The Edinburg Police Department issued a reminder to the public about the dangers of impaired driving. “Never drive under the influence, as impaired driving puts everyone at risk,” the department said in a statement.
