ECISD Board to Hold Special Called Meeting on Saturday For Major Campus Improvements at Canterbury, Other Campuses

EDINBURG TX – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District will hold a special called board meeting at noon on Saturday, June 28, at 12 pm to consider contracts for a series of campus improvement projects. The items were originally in this week’s regular board meeting held on Tuesday, June 24.
During the Tuesday meeting, Board President David Torres pointed out that the items had not been brought before the Board’s Facilities Committee, as required by Board policies. He explained that the Facilities Committee last met on June 5th. The bids for one of the proposed contracts for repairs to Canterbury Elementary did not come in until June 10th. This did not give the committee time to review the bids or interview contractors prior to being sent to the full board. Torres noted that the information the Board members’ agenda packets stated that the bids had been reviewed by the Facilities Committee when they had not.
At that same meeting, the Board discussed holding a meeting of the Facilities Committee on Wednesday to review the bids and then meet with the full board. Trustee Carmen Gonzalez urged the board to move quickly since this involved the repairs at Canterbury Elementary. The same situation occurred with the other items.
On the agenda for Saturday’s meeting are four action items, all related to competitive sealed proposals for infrastructure upgrades across the district. The board will vote on roofing improvements at Canterbury Elementary (CSP 25-72) and Cavazos Elementary (CSP 25-78), as well as the replacement of the chiller system at Harwell Middle School (CSP 25-80).
In addition, trustees will consider approval for the construction of multi-use buildings at ECISD high schools (CSP 25-74).
As usual, the meeting will be held at the district’s Board Meeting Room at 411 N. 8th Street.
