Edinburg TX – The Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees will hold a special called meeting Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., with the search for a permanent superintendent as the centerpiece of the agenda. The meeting replaces the regular board meeting originally scheduled for July 28, which was canceled without explanation.

Superintendent Search

The board will go into executive session in the middle of the agenda to interview candidates for the position of superintendent of schools and discuss possible action related to naming a lone finalist. Upon returning to open session, the board may take action to publicly name a lone finalist under item 12.C.11. That action may take place after a second executive session at the end of the regular agenda.

Under Texas law, the names of applicants for the superintendent position at a public school district are exempt from public disclosure. However, once the board identifies a finalist, the name must be publicly announced at least 21 days before the meeting at which a final vote on employment is to be taken. That 21-day window would mean a final vote could not occur before late August at the earliest.

The superintendent search comes after a turbulent period for the district. At a July 1 special meeting, the board reversed its June 23 vote to appoint Dr. Gisela Saenz as interim superintendent following public concerns about procedural irregularities and Saenz’s background at La Joya ISD, where the Texas Education Agency later took over the district. The board instead named Chief of Finance and Operations Adele Felix as interim superintendent.

The board will also convene in a second closed session to consider employment of the following positions, with possible action in open session:

• Librarian, Kennedy Elementary School
• Counselor, Kennedy Elementary School
• Principal, Eisenhower Elementary School
• Principal, Gonzalez Elementary School
• Principal, Lee Elementary School
• Principal, Treviño Elementary School
• Speech Language Pathologist, Special Education Department
• Secondary Language Arts Specialist, Curriculum and Instruction Department
• Superintendent’s recommendations concerning employment, resignations, retirements, non-renewals, and terminations
• Level III Employee Grievance Hearing: Raul Salas

The board will also discuss pending litigation, real property, security devices or security audits, and pending personnel investigations in closed session.

Consent Agenda

The board will consider the following consent items:

• Approval of minutes for the June 23, 2026, board workshop and regular meeting and the July 1, 2026, special called board meeting
• A consultant agreement with Edinburg World Birding Center for wetland teacher training and in-person field trips for all ECISD 5th grade students at a cost of $13,650 funded through Title IV funds
• Purchase of updated Temas textbooks, the Temas platform, and AP Spanish 4E Language and Culture Exam Preparation books from Vista Higher Learning for five high school campuses at a cost of $36,661.60 funded through Title IV funds
• First-year contract renewal for Competitive Sealed Proposal 25-75, Lumber and Related Items, at a cost of $50,000

• Second reading of revisions to Local Policy FFA (Local): Student Welfare: Wellness and Health Services
• Engagement letter with Norton Rose Fulbright at a cost of $50,000 funded through local maintenance funds
• Renewal of software subscription from Frontline Education for Special Education Manager, Section 504, and Response to Intervention student data management services at a cost of $84,789.36 funded through local maintenance funds
• Second contract renewal of RFP 22-107, Workers Compensation Insurance, at a cost of $217,202 funded through workers compensation funds
• First-year contract renewal for Competitive Sealed Proposal 25-76, Plumbing Supplies and Equipment, at a cost of $300,000 funded through local maintenance funds
• First-year contract renewal for Competitive Sealed Proposal 25-77, Hardware Supplies and Equipment, at a cost of $60,000 funded through local and state funds
