Edinburg Council to weigh airport funding, annexation and zoning changes in February 3rd meeting

Staff Report

Edinburg, TX – The Edinburg City Council is scheduled to convene on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, for its regularly scheduled meeting, with a packed agenda that includes major infrastructure considerations, land-use decisions and economic development discussions.

City leaders are expected to review a proposed $10.5 million infrastructure investment at the South Texas International Airport, a project that could support expanded facilities and operations at the growing regional air hub.

The council will also consider several rezoning and variance requests affecting properties across the city. These items typically involve adjustments to land uses or development standards that can influence residential and commercial growth patterns.

In addition, members will take up a voluntary annexation petition on FM 2812, a move that—if approved—would extend the city’s boundaries to incorporate additional land and potentially broaden its tax base and municipal services.

The agenda includes time for executive session discussions on “Project Happy Gilmore,” a newly identified economic development initiative. While details remain limited, such sessions are often used to discuss incentives or strategic plans to attract or retain businesses before any public action.

The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at Edinburg City Hall, 415 W. University Drive, and is open to the public.
