Edinburg library to host World Read Aloud Day events for families

Edinburg, TX – The Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library will host a full day of activities Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, in recognition of World Read Aloud Day, featuring multiple storytime sessions and special guests for children and families.

The events are scheduled throughout the day, allowing families to attend one or more sessions.

Library schedule and special guests

The first session begins at 10 a.m. with members of the Edinburg Police Department, who will participate in a storytime and appear with Domino, a therapy dog. At 11 a.m., the Edinburg Fire Department will host a storytime and display a fire truck as part of the program.

Evening sessions for families

Programming resumes at 5 p.m. with local children’s author Rose Mendez, who will read with children and offer face painting. At 6 p.m., the library’s Creatures Club will present a session focused on octopuses, including an educational presentation and a puppet show.

Additional details

Each session will include storytime and a craft activity. The events are open to families and designed for children of various ages. The Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library is operated by the City of Edinburg Library and Cultural Arts Department and is located at 1906 S. Closner Blvd.
