Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Two Suspects in Armed Robbery During Attempted Gold Sale

Edinburg TX – Hidalgo County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two suspects following an investigation into an aggravated robbery that occurred Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in the 4200 block of Carol Lane in rural Edinburg.
Deputies responded to the scene at approximately 11:09 p.m. and met with two victims who reported they had arranged a meeting through social media to purchase gold. The victims stated that upon arriving at the residence and meeting with the seller, the suspect displayed a firearm and demanded money. The seller then called out two additional suspects who appeared armed with handguns. According to the victims, the suspects stole cash and other property before fleeing in the victims’ Ford F-150.
During the investigation, Major Crimes Investigators identified two additional suspects involved in the robbery. On May 29, 2026, 24-year-old Jose Rene Vasquez was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, with bond set at $40,000 for each count.
With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, 24-year-old Brandon Vasquez was arrested on June 12, 2026, and charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, with bond set at $100,000 for each count.
Additional arrests are expected, and the investigation continues.
