Edinburg PD Thwarts Terroristic Threat at Children’s Hospital – Suspect Apprehended

Edinburg, TX, January 28, 2024 — A potential threat was swiftly neutralized by Edinburg Police Department (PD) officers on Saturday, January 27, 2024, just before 10 a.m., when they responded to a terroristic threat at 1102 West Trenton Road, home to Edinburg Regional Children’s Hospital.
The incident unfolded as officers received a report indicating that a male subject had made terroristic threats, claiming to be armed and expressing intentions to “shoot the place” and a security officer. Upon arriving at the scene, the responding officers attempted to establish contact with the suspected male, prompting the individual to evade them and initiate a foot pursuit. The agile suspect was successfully apprehended and taken into custody.
In response to safety concerns raised during the incident, a security sweep of the Children’s Hospital’s Fourth Floor was conducted. Hospital staff had taken precautionary measures by placing the facility on lockdown. Fortunately, the thorough sweep confirmed the hospital’s safety, allowing operations to resume without further interruption.
The identified adult male, 18-year-old Moises Rodriguez of Alamo, Texas, now faces an array of charges stemming from the incident. These charges include Terroristic Threat, Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, Assault on a Peace Officer, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Failure to Identify.
