Edinburg PD Arrests Two For Aggravated Robbery

Edinburg, TX, January 28, 2024 – Edinburg Police arrested two Edinburg residents accused to assaulting several individuals on Saturday. 

In response to a distress call on Saturday, January 27, 2024, around 8 a.m., Edinburg Police Department (PD) officers intervened in a reported aggravated robbery at 4221 S. Raul Longoria Road, housing a Dollar Tree store. The incident unfolded when officers arrived at the scene and encountered four adult males, one of whom had sustained a head injury during the altercation.

The victims recounted a harrowing tale of assault, revealing that they had been attacked by two other males at a local late-night establishment. The assailants swiftly fled the scene in a silver Toyota Camry prior to the officers’ arrival. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) promptly provided medical assistance to the injured victim.

Upon getting into the investigation, it was revealed that one of the suspects brandished a weapon, assaulting a victim by striking them on the head while menacingly pointing the handgun at all present. The perpetrators then demanded money before making a hasty escape from the Dollar Tree location.

The Edinburg PD’s Patrol Division disseminated pertinent information to department personnel and initiated a comprehensive search for the suspect vehicle. The silver Toyota Camry was located shortly afterward in the 800 block of N. Closner Blvd. Officers successfully apprehended the presumed suspects, accompanied by an adult female. Subsequently, both males, identified as 20-year-old Eddie Castelo and 23-year-old Isaiah Israel Cantu, both residents of Edinburg, were arrested not only for aggravated robbery but also on narcotics-related charges.

The ongoing investigation aims to uncover further details surrounding the incident and any potential accomplices. Authorities encourage anyone with additional information to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry.
