Staff Report

EDINBURG TX – Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Commissioner Ellie Torres joined community leaders, county officials, project partners and residents Thursday to break ground on a new $9.5 million Community Resource Center at 10187 Carmen Avila Road in Edinburg, the second such facility in Precinct 4.

The approximately 30,000-square-foot facility will serve residents in the northernmost part of Precinct 4 and is expected to take approximately 14 months to complete.

“This project is about more than bricks and mortar; it is about creating opportunities and investing in the people of northern Precinct 4,” Commissioner Torres said. “This will be a place where families can come together, children can learn and play, and residents can access resources that can help them build a stronger future.”

Amenities and Partners

The facility will feature an enclosed gymnasium, pavilion, basketball court, two classrooms, computer center, food pantry and community closet. Site features will include a Valley Metro bus stop, retention pond and ample parking.

The center will provide a location for the Edinburg Boys & Girls Club and will serve as a home for partner organizations including Region One Education Service Center, the Rio Grande Valley Food Bank, Driscoll Health Plan, UTHealth and other community partners.

“As a site supervisor at the Community Resource Center in San Carlos, I have the privilege of seeing firsthand the impact community programs can have on people’s lives,” said Alicia Rodriguez, director of the CRC at Alfonso Flores All Star Park in San Carlos. “Now we have the opportunity to make an impact in this community, in the northernmost part of Precinct 4.”
