Hidalgo County School Nurse Charged With Indecency With a Child Following Months-Long Investigation

EDINBURG TX – The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office has charged a 46-year-old male school nurse with two counts of Indecency with a Child, a second-degree felony, following a months-long investigation, authorities announced Thursday.
Ruben Del Toro was arraigned Thursday and bond was set at $100,000.
The investigation began Aug. 20, 2026, when the mother of a child contacted the HCSO and reported that the child made an outcry alleging that a male school nurse had touched the child inappropriately during school hours. During the initial report, the child also disclosed to the mother that similar incidents had occurred multiple times over the course of the year. The school is located in Monte Alto.
Investigators determined there was sufficient probable cause to charge Del Toro. The investigation is ongoing. The HCSO did not release the child’s age or the name of the school.
