Edinburg police, partners make young cancer patient’s dream come true

Staff Report
Edinburg, TX – For one brave 6-year-old, Monday brought a glimpse of the future she dreams about. Anahi Yvara, who is battling leukemia, wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up — and thanks to the Edinburg Police Department and community partners, she got to live that dream for a day.

Anahi suited up as the “best vet in town” and welcomed her very first patient: Domino, a K-9 officer with the department. With guidance from local veterinarians, she gave the police dog a full check-up and plenty of care.

The day was made possible with help from Four Paws Animal Hospital and Vannie Cook Children’s Clinic. Maria Mendoza of Four Paws said the team was proud to take part. “Four Paws Animal Hospital was honored to have Anahi experience being a vet for a day,” Mendoza said. “We strived to organize everything for her so she can have the best day ever.”

Organizers said Anahi’s strength, smile and love for animals inspired everyone who witnessed the event.
