Edinburg sales tax allocation rises 3.9% in February distribution

Edinburg, TX – Edinburg received $4,469,460.36 in local sales tax allocations for Decembrer 2025, a 3.90% increase compared with $4,301,670.77 in February 2024, according to data released by the Texas Comptroller’s Office.

Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced that cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts statewide will receive $1.5 billion in local sales tax allocations for February, up 2.5% from February 2025.

The allocations are based on sales made in December by businesses that report tax monthly, October through December sales by quarterly filers and 2025 sales by businesses that report tax annually.

Year-to-date totals

Edinburg’s year-to-date sales tax allocations total $7,626,334.40, compared with $7,476,667.76 during the same period last year. That reflects a 2.00% increase.

Edinburg has a local sales tax rate of 2.00%, according to the comptroller’s data.

Countywide totals

Cities in Hidalgo County received a combined $31,529,238.51 for the February reporting period, compared with $30,802,615.36 a year earlier, an increase of 2.36%.

Year to date, Hidalgo County cities have received $54,592,414.05, up 3.34% from $52,828,619.81 during the same period last year.

Cities across Hidalgo County reported mixed results in the February allocation. McAllen received $12,605,684.69, a 5.31% increase from $11,969,775.88 a year earlier, while Mission’s allocation declined 3.20% to $3,213,073.28 from $3,319,352.41. Pharr saw a 1.78% decrease to $3,196,188.79, compared with $3,254,382.66 last year, and Weslaco’s payment fell 4.72% to $2,244,534.84 from $2,355,917.13.

Several smaller cities posted double-digit gains. Donna’s allocation rose 15.25% to $954,503.03, and Progreso increased 22.47% to $37,628.64. Progreso Lakes reported a 21.70% increase to $11,704.35, while La Villa recorded a 29.78% gain to $24,712.52. In contrast, La Joya declined 13.37% to $80,562.58, and Edcouch fell 9.28% to $45,480.22 compared with the same month last year.
