David Chavana 10K returns Feb. 7 with team competition honoring late race founder

Edinburg, TX – The annual David Chavana 10K Run/Walk will return to Edinburg on Feb. 7, 2026, with this year’s event dedicated to celebrating the life, passion and lasting impact of David Chavana, the longtime educator and community leader whose name the race bears.
The race, hosted by the City of Edinburg through its Parks and Recreation Department, is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. and will again feature a team competition component in addition to individual runners and walkers.
Team competition details
Organizers are inviting running groups, clubs and community teams to participate in the team competition, which allows 7 to 10 runners per team. The top seven finishers from each team will count toward the final team score.
Team rosters must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 30, 2026. Organizers noted that no substitutions will be allowed after the deadline. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams.
Honoring a community legacy
The David Chavana 10K has been a signature Edinburg event for decades, drawing runners from across the Rio Grande Valley and beyond. City officials said this year’s race will place special emphasis on honoring Chavana’s legacy of promoting health, fitness and community involvement.
The event is presented in partnership with local sponsors and continues to serve as one of the city’s largest and most recognized road races.
