Edinburg Chamber Urges Residents to Support Local Shops on Small Business Saturday

Staff Report
Edinburg, TX – The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce is encouraging residents to shop, dine and spend locally as the community prepares for Small Business Saturday, the nationwide campaign that highlights the economic impact of independent retailers and locally owned establishments.
Observed each year on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday was launched in 2010 by American Express to help small retailers recover from the economic slowdown of the Great Recession. The initiative has since grown into a national effort supported by chambers of commerce, municipalities and small-business networks across the country. The campaign serves as a counterbalance to Black Friday and Cyber Monday by directing holiday spending toward neighborhood businesses that help drive local job growth and keep dollars circulating within the community.
In Edinburg, the chamber said the day marks the start of a holiday season focused on boosting small, locally owned shops, restaurants and entertainment venues.
“This season, remember to shop small, dine local, and entertain in Edinburg,” the chamber said in a statement. “Small Business Saturday kicks off a holiday break full of supporting the businesses that make our community shine.”
Residents are encouraged to share and tag their favorite local businesses on social media to help others discover them.
