Edinburg City Council to Review Development Cases, Holiday Events and Board Appointments

Edinburg, TX – The Edinburg City Council will hold it’s regular first meeting of the month, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. to consider zoning matters, development variances, and appointments to various boards, according to the posted agenda. The meeting will take place at Edinburg City Hall, 415 W. University Drive.
The session opens with routine procedures, followed by the mayor’s report and a briefing from the city manager. This month’s report highlights several major holiday events, including the Miracle on McIntyre Street festival, the city’s tree lighting ceremony, the Night of Lights Parade, the Blue Santa toy initiative and the Deck the House home-decorating contest.
The agenda includes multiple public hearings on comprehensive plan amendments and rezoning requests across the city. Cases scheduled for review include proposals involving Brandy Estates, Kelly-Pharr Subdivision, Primarosa Estates Unit 2, Trenton Manor Subdivision and a special-use permit for alcoholic beverage sales at 123 E. Mark S. Peña Drive.
Council will also consider three variance requests tied to the city’s Unified Development Code, along with the authorization of a sewer camera system purchase.
A key portion of the meeting will focus on appointments. Council is scheduled to consider naming a City Council member and an alternate to the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council Board of Directors. Members will also discuss appointing an alternate to the Rio Grande Valley Emergency Communication District (RGVECD 911) Board of Managers.
The consent agenda includes several resolutions on grant applications for traffic improvements, library broadband access, construction change orders, and equipment purchases for the city’s solid waste and parks departments. The council may pull any item from the consent agenda for separate discussion.
The meeting will close with future items requested by council members and an executive session on legal and economic development matters. Any actions related to executive session discussions must be made in open session.
