Edinburg Council to Weigh Tax Rate Proposal at Tonight’s Meeting, Set Public Hearing Date

Staff Report
EDINBURG TX – The Edinburg City Council on Tuesday will consider keeping the city’s property tax rate unchanged for the upcoming fiscal year while setting a date for a required public hearing.
City staff is recommending a proposed rate of $0.6300 per $100 of taxable property value for the 2025-26 fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1. The proposal would maintain the current rate, marking the second consecutive year without a reduction.
In recent years, the city has lowered its rate by a total of five cents, from $0.6800 in fiscal year 2022-23 to the current $0.6300. Under the new proposal, the rate would remain steady, though individual tax bills could still fluctuate depending on changes in property values.
State law requires a record vote to set the proposed rate and establish a date for the public hearing before adoption. City staff is recommending that the hearing be held Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. at Edinburg City Hall, 415 W. University Drive.
The proposed rate and hearing schedule will be discussed as part of Tuesday’s regular council meeting.
