Edinburg CISD Board Calls Special Meeting July 1 to Reconsider Interim Superintendent Appointment

Edinburg CISD, Board of Trustees, Interim Superintendent, Gisela Saenz, Special Called Meeting, Edinburg TX

Staff Report

Edinburg TX – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees has called a special meeting for Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 5 p.m. to revisit the appointment of an interim superintendent, little more than one week after the board named Dr. Gisela Saenz to the role at its June 23 regular meeting.

The agenda lists two personnel items for closed session deliberation: the employment of the interim superintendent and the appointment of a new interim superintendent. Both items will return to open session for possible action following closed session.

The meeting comes after the board voted June 23 to appoint Saenz, a former La Joya ISD superintendent with 36 years of district experience, as interim superintendent following the announced retirement of Dr. Mario H. Salinas at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.

No additional detail on the reason for reconsidering the appointment was provided in the agenda. Public comments will be accepted at the start of the meeting.
