Edinburg Cultural Arts Announces Missoula Children’s Theatre “Red Truck Tour”

Edinburg TX – The City of Edinburg Cultural Arts Department, in partnership with the Edinburg Arts Foundation, will host the Missoula Children’s Theatre Red Truck Tour production of “Beauty Lou and the Country Beast” the week of Aug. 10-15, 2026, giving students in grades 1 through 12 the opportunity to audition, rehearse, and perform a full-scale musical in five days. The production was adapted by Jim Caron with music and lyrics by Michael McGill.

Auditions — Monday, Aug. 10

Open auditions will be held Monday, Aug. 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Edinburg ACE Center, 315 W. McIntyre St. Participants must arrive by 2:45 p.m. Auditions are free and open to students in grades 1 through 12. No advance preparation is required. Participation is limited to 100 students, with the cast consisting of 60 actors and 4 assistant directors. Early arrival is strongly encouraged.

Theatre Camp Week — Aug. 10-14

Selected cast members will rehearse at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium, 200 N. 7th Ave., from Aug. 10 through 14. Two daily rehearsal sessions will be held: Rehearsal 1 from 3 to 5 p.m. and Rehearsal 2 from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. Cast members must commit to attending both sessions each day. The one-time participation fee is $30 plus tax and includes an assigned role and stage costume.

MCT Workshop Days — Aug. 11-13

The community is invited to participate in three days of 45-minute interactive theatre workshops from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium. The workshops are open to all community members and aspiring performers regardless of cast status and are organized by grade level:

  • Grades 1 and 2: Drama Quest: Adventures in Antarctica — An active, role-playing workshop in a group setting focused on problem-solving, communication, and imagination. Cost: $10 plus tax per child.
  • Grades 3, 4, and 5: Improv: Just Wing It! — A workshop emphasizing teamwork and all-in participation as students learn to act without a script. Cost: $15 plus tax per child.
  • Grades 6, 7, and 8: Acting: All the World’s a Stage — An exploration of core acting tools including observation, memorization, concentration, and imagination. Cost: $15 plus tax per child.
