Sekula Memorial Library earns statewide excellence award for 16th consecutive year

Edinburg, TX – The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library has been recognized as one of Texas’ top public libraries for the 16th consecutive year, earning the 2025 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association.

The annual award honors public libraries that demonstrate sustained excellence in service, programming and community engagement. The Edinburg library was one of 101 recipients selected statewide from 545 public library systems, placing it among the top 20% in Texas.

Wide range of initiatives

In its award application, the library highlighted a range of initiatives, including outreach to underserved populations, partnerships with local organizations, literacy programs for children and adults, digital access through public internet services, workforce development resources, cultural and educational programming, and ongoing professional development for staff.

Library and Cultural Arts Director Letty Leija said the recognition reflects both staff commitment and community support.

“We are proud to continue providing innovative programs and services that meet the evolving needs of our community,” Leija said. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our staff and the support of our community.”

The award underscores the library’s role in supporting education, access to information and quality-of-life initiatives for Edinburg residents.
