Edinburg Council to Issue October Proclamations Honoring Health, Safety, and Community Planning at Tonight’s Meeting

Edinburg, TX – The Edinburg City Council is set to recognize several community awareness initiatives during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, at 6 p.m. at City Hall. The proclamations will highlight local efforts in public health, safety, and community development throughout the month of October.
Council members will present four official proclamations, designating October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Physician Assistants Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Community Planning Month.
The proclamation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month will be presented to Mujeres Unidas–Women Together Group, acknowledging their continued work to support survivors and promote violence prevention programs across Hidalgo County.
Representatives from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Physician Assistant Program will be recognized for their contributions to health care access in the region as part of Physician Assistants Month. The council will also honor South Texas Health System for their advocacy and outreach during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, encouraging early detection and education.
In addition, Community Planning Month will be recognized to emphasize the city’s commitment to sustainable development and thoughtful urban design. Jaime Acevedo, Director of Planning and Zoning, is expected to accept the proclamation on behalf of the city’s planning staff.
The October 21 meeting will also include updates from the mayor and city manager, who will highlight upcoming community events such as Los Muertos Bailan, Fall Brawl, and the Veterans Day Parade.
