Edinburg Police Department Opens Enrollment for Citizens Police Academy

Edinburg, TX – The Edinburg Police Department is inviting residents to participate in its Citizens Police Academy, a free program designed to give community members an inside look at law enforcement operations. Classes begin Oct. 7 and run through Nov. 15 at the LCpl. Derek Hernandez Police Training Facility, 1309 N. Doolittle Road.
The academy will meet Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., along with two Saturday morning sessions. Topics will include patrol procedures, criminal investigations, firearms, police driving, and K-9 operations, among others.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old, live or work in Edinburg, and be able to attend all scheduled sessions. The deadline to apply is Oct. 3.
The program is intended to build stronger ties between police and the community by providing hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of daily police work.
