Edinburg TX – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees will hold a special called meeting Monday, June 8, 2026, beginning at 6:15 p.m.

The board will open with recognition of top Millionaire Word Readers from the Federal Programs Department and a superintendent’s report covering board committee discussions.

Real Property Sales

Two significant real property items are on the action agenda. The board will consider approving Resolution 2026-12 authorizing the sale of the surface only of approximately 1.46 acres out of Lot 13, Block 270, Texas Mexican Railway Subdivision, and authorizing the superintendent to receive and open sealed proposals in accordance with Section 272.001(A) of the Texas Local Government Code.

The board will also consider approving RFP 26-44 for the purchase of real property located at 802 Dawson St., Edinburg, covering the surface only of approximately 1.99 acres out of Lot 13, Block 270, Texas Mexican Railway Subdivision.

Dual Credit and College Partnerships

The board will consider two sets of interlocal agreements with South Texas College covering the 2026-2027 academic year. The first covers dual credit programs at Edinburg High School, Edinburg North High School, J. Economedes High School, Robert Vela High School, and Vision Academy at a cost of $57,000, funded through CCMR and local maintenance funds. The second covers Early College High School dual credit programs at Edinburg High School, Edinburg North High School, J. Economedes High School, and Robert Vela High School at a cost of $513,000, funded through CCMR and local maintenance funds.

The board will also consider renewal of the memorandum of understanding dual partnership between Texas Southmost College and Edinburg CISD for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Instructional Materials and Curriculum

Action items include approval to purchase CTE print and online instructional materials from TEA’s 2017 state adoption for grades 8 through 12 at a cost of $416,370.23, funded through the instructional materials allotment; Building Connections literacy and mental health skills kits at a cost of $85,385.61, funded through Title IV funds; and CTE equipment and supplies for Barrientes Middle School at a cost of $86,507.43, funded through career and technology funds.

Consent agenda curriculum items include continuing adoption of elementary and secondary textbooks, e-books, and online instructional materials from TEA’s state-adopted list at a cost of $48,600, funded through the instructional materials allotment; and secondary textbooks and online materials for new CTE courses at a cost of $43,134.80, funded through the instructional materials allotment.

Facilities and Operations

The board will consider final completion of the B.L. Garza Middle School and Transportation Shop Roofing Improvements under CSP 25-73 at a cost of $1,184,461.81, funded through construction funds. Additional action items include a first-year contract renewal for air conditioner units under CSP 25-62 at a cost of $100,000, funded through local maintenance funds; insecticides and herbicides under CSP 26-39 at a cost of $80,000, funded through local maintenance funds; and paints and related items under CSP 26-39 at a cost of $80,000, funded through local maintenance funds.

Policy and Finance

The board will consider approval of the first reading of revisions to board policy DEC local covering compensation, benefits, leaves, and absences. The board will also consider approval of a plan of finance for short-term financing and a 2026-2027 commitment for partnership in the Personnel Services Cooperative with Region One ESC at a cost of $14,363.50, funded through local maintenance funds.

Personnel

The board will enter closed session to consider employment for eight positions at J. Economedes High School and district campuses, including a head orchestra teacher, a teacher with head softball coach supplemental duties, an assistant band director, a social worker, a librarian at Kennedy Elementary, a counselor at Magee Elementary, a diagnostician for the Special Education Department, and an administrative systems analyst/programmer for the Personnel Department. The board will also discuss pending personnel investigations, the superintendent’s personnel update, and a summer employment addendum.

The board will also deliberate on intruder detection audit findings for Edinburg High School, Jefferson Elementary, and Hargill Elementary during closed session. Action on all closed session items will occur in open session upon the board’s return.
