EDINBURG, TX – Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Com. Ellie Torres and the Texas Department of Transportation have announced the completion of the FM 1925 (Monte Cristo Road) improvement project, an $11.4 million infrastructure investment aimed at improving mobility, traffic flow and roadway safety in eastern Hidalgo County.

Torres said the project represents a broader effort to modernize the FM 1925 corridor. “I am pleased with the completion of this important project,” Torres said in a statement. “This project is part of broader efforts to upgrade the FM 1925 corridor, and Precinct 4 was honored to participate in the engineering and design phases.”

She added that the project reflects the continued collaboration between Hidalgo County leadership and the Texas Department of Transportation to deliver infrastructure improvements efficiently.The project widened and reconstructed approximately 1.6 miles of FM 1925 from FM 907 (Alamo Road) to Sharp Road, converting the roadway into a four-lane corridor with a continuous center turn lane. Additional improvements included the installation of curb and gutter infrastructure and upgraded shoulder lanes.

Construction began in April 2024 and the roadway officially reopened to the public on May 1, 2026.

Infrastructure Upgrades

According to county officials, the project was designed to address growing traffic demands tied to rapid residential and commercial development in the region.

Key improvements included:

  • Expansion from two lanes to four lanes
  • Addition of a continuous center turn lane
  • Installation of curb and gutter infrastructure
  • Enhanced shoulder lanes
  • Improved traffic flow and roadway safety

Regional Growth and Mobility

Officials said the upgraded corridor is expected to improve daily travel conditions for residents, reduce congestion and support future economic growth in the area as development continues across eastern Hidalgo County.

The project is one of several roadway improvement efforts underway throughout the region aimed at expanding transportation capacity and enhancing public safety.
