Edinburg, TX – The Edinburg City Council is back to full strength following the swearing-in of Council Member Jason De Leon, who won re-election in the Dec. 13 runoff. With all seats now filled, city officials say the council is prepared to accelerate work on several major initiatives that were paused or slowed during the election period.

The swearing in took place on Monday, Dec. 22, at 5:30 pm before the regular City Council meeting.

De Leon’s return restores continuity to the governing body as it prepares to advance infrastructure improvements, public safety investments, development ordinance updates and multiple long-term economic projects. Several of these items have been under review in recent workshops and executive sessions and are expected to return for council action early in the new year.

Council members have also indicated interest in addressing community priorities raised in recent meetings, including school-area safety concerns near Fountain Park and Austin Elementary, park enhancements, and updates to citywide appointment processes for boards and commissions.

City leaders say having the full council seated allows staff to bring back pending items that require full participation or majority approval, particularly those tied to land use, capital planning and economic development negotiations. With Edinburg continuing to grow rapidly, officials say timely action on these projects will be essential as the city moves into 2026.
