Edinburg Launches Sandbag Distribution Ahead of Forecasted Rainfall Following March Flooding

Staff Report
EDINBURG, TX — The City of Edinburg will distribute sandbags today, Friday, May 2, 2025, in preparation for expected rainfall, just weeks after a severe storm on March 28 caused widespread flooding throughout the area.
The drive-thru distribution event will take place from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Edinburg Service Center, located at 1201 N. Doolittle Road. The effort is part of the City’s proactive response to help residents safeguard their properties and avoid repeat flood damage.
The March 28 storm brought several inches of rain in a short period, overwhelming drainage systems and flooding homes, roads, and businesses across Edinburg. City officials say the current forecast warrants caution and preparation.
“After what our community experienced in late March, we are taking every step to ensure residents have the resources they need to be ready,” said city officials.
The distribution is open to Edinburg residents and local businesses. Households may receive up to six sandbags, while businesses may receive up to eight.
Residents are encouraged to arrive early, monitor weather updates, and take additional steps to secure their homes and property.
