Edinburg, TX — The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library is set to kick off its 2024 Children’s Summer Reading Program (SRP) with an engaging and interactive event. This year’s theme, “Your Adventure Begins at the Library,” promises a variety of exciting activities and adventures for children of all ages.
The kickoff event will feature a live interactive dinosaur show on Friday, June 7, at 6 p.m. at the Sekula Memorial Library. This event is open to all registered participants, and registration will be available on-site for those who have not yet signed up.
The Summer Reading Program, which runs from June 10 to July 12, welcomes children from infancy to age 11, as well as tweens, teens, and adults. The program is designed to encourage early literacy and help school-age children maintain their reading skills during the summer break, preventing the “summer slump.” Participants will have specific reading goals to achieve, and those who meet their goals will be invited to a special celebration event at the end of the program.
The SRP includes a variety of activities from Monday to Thursday at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and on Fridays at 10 a.m. These sessions will cover topics such as Art, STEM, and Culinary Arts. Tuesdays will be dedicated to toddlers, with guest speakers and presentations every Friday. Tweens and teens will have their sessions from Monday to Thursday at 6 p.m. The program is free to register for and participate in, with all materials provided.
