ECISD Board To Approve Multiple Agreements With UTRGV At Tonight’s Meeting
Edinburg, Texas, Sept. 26, 2023 – The Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees will meet tonight in a regular meeting with a routine agenda loaded with hiring new staff and with several agreements with UTRGV in addition to routine purchasing matters.
The Board will consider four agreements with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). These include a number of services for students and staff.
The first is an Interlocal Cooperation Contract with the University to implement the Work Study Student Mentorship Program – GO Center (Collegiate G-Force Mentorship Program) at Edinburg High School, Edinburg North High School, Johnny Economedes High School, and Robert Vela High School during the 2023-2024 school year.
The second is an Affiliation Agreement between Edinburg CISD and UTRGV for the Teacher Preparation Program beginning 2023-2024 school year up to August 2028.
The third is an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement with the University for students to participate in the Mother-Daughter Program at Barrientes Middle School, B.L. Garza Middle School, Brewster School, Harwell Middle School, Longoria Middle School, Memorial Middle School, and South Middle School during the 2023-2024 school year at a cost of $23,000.
The fourth is an Interlocal Cooperation Contract with the UTRGV for student to participate in the Father-Son Program at Barrientes Middle School, B.L. Garza Middle School, Brewster School, Harwell Middle School, Longoria Middle School, Memorial Middle School, and South Middle School during the 2023-2024 school year, also at a cost of $23,000.
In legal matters, the Board will meet in executive session to consider Contracts for Professional Services with Legal Counsel. No details were available prior to the meeting. However, two other items may be related. Board members will also consider discussions with tegal counsel concerning ECISD v. Zurich American Insurance Company, et al, Cause No. C-1758-22-M, being heard in 476th District Court, Hidalgo County. Another item calls for possible hiring of representation for litigation.
The Board is also expected to take a number of personnel actions at tonight’s meeting. This includes creating a new position for a Coordinator of Safety and Security. There was no information prior to the meeting why the position was being considered. There is no item on the agenda about hiring anyone for the position.
In other personnel matters, the Board will consider approving hiring for several positions in executive session. These include:
- 3 Educational Diagnosticians
- 1 Speech Language Pathologist, and
- 1 Assistant Principal at Harwell Middle School
