Edinburg, TX – The City of Edinburg will conduct testing April 21 for entry-level firefighter positions as part of its hiring process for the Edinburg Fire Department. Applications are currently being accepted, with a deadline of April 6 for submission of required materials through the Edinburg Civil Service Director.

Testing details

The written examination is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the Activity Center, located at 123 E. Palm Drive. Testing will begin at 8:30 a.m., with doors opening at 8 a.m. Applicants must arrive 30 minutes prior to the posted start time to complete the check-in process.

Minimum requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and not older than 35. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent and demonstrate the ability to read and write in English.

Additional requirements include holding a valid driver license with a satisfactory driving record and meeting eligibility criteria for U.S. residency. Applicants must submit all required documentation by the stated deadline and meet minimum qualifications established in the position classification plan adopted by the Civil Service Commission.

Compensation and benefits

The entry-level firefighter salary range is listed as $42,936.86 to $48,456.99, with a salary of $54,274.47 after completion of probation.
