Edinburg library to host heart health lecture series on Tuesdays in February

Edinburg, TX – The Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library will host a three-part heart health lecture series in February as part of Heart Health Month, offering educational presentations, light exercise sessions and free recipes to the public.

Program schedule and topics

The series, titled “Matters of the Heart,” will be held on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. on Feb. 10, Feb. 17 and Feb. 24 at the library, located at 1906 S. Closner Blvd.

The Feb. 10 session will focus on cholesterol and heart health, including nutrition strategies to support cardiovascular wellness. On Feb. 17, the topic will be high blood pressure and steps individuals can take to manage it and live healthier. The final session on Feb. 24 will address stroke awareness, with information on recognizing warning signs and prevention using the F.A.S.T. method.

Community partnerships

The sessions will be led with support from the Prairie View A&M University Extension Family and Community Health program, in partnership with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Hidalgo County. Library officials credited Joanne Ureste and the local Family and Community Health team for providing the programming.
