The City of Edinburg is accepting applications for communications operators with the Edinburg Police Department, a position responsible for handling emergency and non-emergency calls and coordinating responses for police and fire services.

Job responsibilities and role

Communications operators serve as dispatchers, processing calls from residents and relaying critical information to first responders. City officials said the position plays a key role in public safety by providing assistance during emergencies and supporting day-to-day operations for police and fire departments.

Requirements and qualifications

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, be U.S. citizens, and possess a high school diploma or GED. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred. Additional requirements include holding a valid Class C driver’s license and successfully passing a background investigation.

Salary and benefits

The position offers an annual salary of $39,415.32, or $18.95 per hour. Benefits include paid vacation and holidays, sick leave, participation in an employee assistance program, access to city fitness centers, and a healthy lifestyle program.

The city also offers a retirement plan with a 7 percent employee contribution and a 2-to-1 city match, as well as 100 percent paid medical and dental coverage, with optional dependent coverage.

Certification pay is available, with additional compensation for intermediate, advanced and master certifications.
