Edinburg CISD reports brief lockdowns at two campuses after weapon reports on Monday

Edinburg, TX – Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District reported that two campuses briefly entered lockdown Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, following reports of a possible weapon. District officials said no weapon was found at either location and all students and staff were safe.

Incident at Robert Vela High School

Robert Vela High School entered a brief lockdown Monday morning after a report of a possible weapon on campus. Edinburg CISD Police were already on site, conducted an immediate investigation and determined that no weapon was present.

The lockdown was lifted shortly afterward, and classes resumed on a normal schedule, according to the district.

Precautionary lockdown at Longoria Middle School

Longoria Middle School also entered a brief lockdown as a precaution due to the active investigation at Robert Vela High School. District officials said the measure was taken out of an abundance of caution.

No weapon was located at Longoria Middle School, and the lockdown was lifted once the investigation concluded.

District response

Edinburg CISD credited students and staff for following established safety procedures and acknowledged the quick response by law enforcement partners during both incidents.
