Hargill Community Rallies Toy Donations Ahead of Parade, ‘Sleigh with Santa’ Event

Staff Report
Edinburg TX – With just days to go before Hargill’s holiday parade and “Sleigh with Santa” celebration, community volunteers are asking for last-minute toy donations to make sure local children receive a gift this Christmas.
Organizers say the small rural community north of Edinburg, whose children attend Edinburg CISD schools, has traditionally held a toy giveaway each December. This year, the club that usually sponsors the effort notified volunteers it would not be able to provide toys due to low supply.
In response, Hargill resident Carmen Davila put out a public call for help, asking residents, businesses and supporters to donate new toys for local children from infancy through high school age.
“We have loads of kids, babies to 18-year-old high schoolers, who would love to get a gift,” Davila wrote in her appeal, noting that donated toys will be distributed during the Sleigh with Santa event at the park following Saturday’s parade.
Davila is coordinating the parade and the toy drive, along with neighborhood volunteers. After the parade, families are invited to gather at the park, where community members and local groups plan to share treats and distribute toys to children.
Those interested in donating are encouraged to drop off toys in the coming days so they can be sorted and readied for the event. Davila asked that donors contact her after 2 p.m. at 956-207-4193 to arrange drop-off.
Organizers said they plan to share photos of the giveaway before, during and after the event as a way to show donors how their contributions helped “save Christmas” for Hargill children.
