Edinburg Mayor Selected for Harvard Bloomberg Program for New Mayors

Staff Report
Edinburg, TX – Edinburg Mayor Omar Ochoa has been selected as one of 34 newly elected U.S. mayors to participate in the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University’s “Program for New Mayors: First 100 Days.”
The program, delivered in collaboration with Bloomberg Philanthropies, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School, brings together mayors from 23 states representing a combined 6.7 million residents for an intensive two-day session at Harvard, followed by continued support after they return home.
Designed to guide mayors through their transition into office and their first 100 days, the program focuses on practical strategies for time management, setting and advancing priorities, handling crises while staying on long-term goals, and building effective city hall teams.
“I am delighted to be selected to join the well-regarded Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard Program for New Mayors: First 100 Days,” Ochoa said in a statement. “By learning alongside and building connections to other U.S. mayors at Harvard, I look forward to strengthening the capabilities my city hall will put to use in addressing pressing challenges, pursuing key opportunities, and serving our community.”
The program also serves as a forum for exchanging ideas and innovations in city leadership, drawing on a global network of mayors and experts. Alumni include mayors from cities such as Akron, Beaumont, Louisville, Philadelphia and San Jose, whose administrations have adopted leadership practices introduced through the curriculum.
The Program for New Mayors operates under the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University, which supports research, training and tools aimed at improving public management and governance in cities worldwide, where more than half of the world’s population now lives.
