Edinburg, TX – As residents prepare to welcome the New Year, the City of Edinburg is reminding the public that celebratory gunfire is illegal and dangerous, and that fireworks are prohibited within city limits.

City officials stressed that firing guns into the air poses a serious risk to public safety, noting that bullets fired upward eventually return to the ground and can cause severe injury or death. The reminder comes as part of the city’s annual New Year’s Eve safety campaign.

Fireworks restrictions

The city also reiterated that fireworks are not allowed within Edinburg city limits. Officials said illegal fireworks and celebratory gunfire place added strain on emergency responders and increase the risk of fires, injuries and property damage.

Reporting violations

Residents who observe celebratory gunfire or fireworks are encouraged to report it to the Edinburg Police Department by calling 956-289-7700. City leaders urged the community to remain vigilant and help keep neighborhoods safe.

Officials encouraged residents to celebrate responsibly and choose safe, legal ways to ring in the New Year.
