Saturday’s Arbor Day event to feature free trees, tribute to late Fire Chief Shawn Snider

Edinburg, TX – The City of Edinburg will mark Texas Arbor Day on Saturday, Nov. 15, with a tree adoption event at Promenade Park and a ceremonial planting honoring the late Fire Chief Shawn Snider. The celebration begins at 8 a.m. at 202 N. 10th Ave.

City staff will distribute more than 100 free trees to residents while supplies last, supported by a grant in partnership with Region One. Crews and volunteers will also plant 10 new trees in the park. A ceremonial tree planting in front of the Edinburg Fire Department—across from Promenade Park—will honor Snider’s service to the community.

The Texas A&M Forest Service will participate, offering additional trees and resources for residents interested in planting and care. Texas observes Arbor Day in November, highlighting the role of urban forestry in shade, stormwater control and air quality.
