Edinburg Police Arrest Man Accused of Threatening South Texas Behavioral Center

Staff Report

EDINBURG, TX – Edinburg Police arrested a man accused of making a terroristic threat against the South Texas Behavioral Center after authorities said he threatened to “shoot up” the facility Tuesday morning.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Timothy Leos, allegedly made the threats in connection to his girlfriend, who is currently a patient at the center. Investigators said he demanded her release.

The case was turned over to the department’s Criminal Investigations Division, which secured an arrest warrant for Leos. Detectives, with assistance from a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter, tracked him and his vehicle to a rural area near Mission.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office stopped the vehicle near Stewart Road and State Highway 107, where Leos was taken into custody without incident.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
