Staff Report
EDINBURG, TX – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees will meet tonight, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m. to recognize fine arts achievements, review enrollment trends and consider a slate of contract approvals and policy updates during their regular scheduled meeting.
The meeting will open with awards for the district’s Visual Arts and Theatre departments, both of which earned District of Distinction honors, as well as recognition of the committee that helped stage the 2025–26 General Assembly.
Superintendent Mario Salinas is scheduled to deliver updates on Project Gateway and districtwide enrollment as of Aug. 29. Public comments will follow.
The consent agenda includes approvals tied to Region One Education Service Center cooperative services, student handbooks, and excused absences for students participating in Edinburg Dance Theatre performances of Peter and the Wolf and The Nutcracker. Trustees will also consider proposals for bank depository services.
Under the action agenda, the board will take up multiple competitive sealed proposals, including contracts for commercial storefront door installations, cooling tower maintenance, fencing materials, and drainage improvements at Edinburg North High School. Collectively, the items carry costs ranging from $54,820 to $200,000, most funded through local maintenance accounts.
Trustees are also expected to vote on a $1.27 million renewal of legal services with district counsel and a $232,000 contract with Workforce Solutions for child care initiatives. Policy revisions concerning board meeting participation, compensation during emergency closures, and student use of electronic devices are scheduled for a second reading.
Closed session discussions will cover pending litigation, potential real estate matters, and personnel items, including hiring for administrative roles at South Middle School, Truman Elementary, and the Child Nutrition Department. The board is also slated to deliberate the possible termination of an at-will employee.
Action on closed session items will follow before adjournment.
