Edinburg Library Continues Summer STEM Series for Families

Staff Report
EDINBURG, TX – The Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library is continuing its hands-on Summer STEM Workshop Series, a family-friendly program exploring chemistry through interactive experiments. The series, hosted by chemistry student Grace D. Guerrera, is designed to teach participants the science behind everyday phenomena in a fun and accessible way.
The program kicked off on June 14 with a session titled That Rocks, where participants learned about crystallization by making their own rock candy. The next session, What Is The PH?, is scheduled for Saturday, June 28 at 1 p.m. and will explore how to test the pH of soil and other solutions.
Additional upcoming workshops include:
- July 12 at 1 p.m. – How Far Will It Go?
Participants will create layers of liquids in a bottle to learn about the chemistry behind separation. - July 26 at 1 p.m. – Watch It Move!
This session will demonstrate capillary action using water and balloons.
Grace D. Guerrera, the program host, is a student at Texas A&M University in McAllen. Passionate about chemistry and science education, she brings experience in conducting experiments and engaging young learners. She will be transitioning to College Station to continue her studies toward a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
All workshops are free and open to families, with materials available while supplies last. Sessions are held at the Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library, located at 1906 S. Closner Blvd. in Edinburg.
