Edinburg Police: Driver Facing Intoxication Assault Charge After Crash

EDINBURG TX — A 22-year-old Pharr man is facing an Intoxication Assault charge following a single-vehicle crashearly Sunday morning that left him and his passenger seriously injured.

According to the Edinburg Police Department, officers responded to the crash at approximately 2:04 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2025, near 2nd Street (Colonel Rowe Blvd) and Hobbs Street. Witnesses reported seeing a black Dodge pickup truck swerving erratically northbound on 2nd Street before running a stop sign at Hobbs Street. The vehicle then struck a light pole, veered onto private property, and rolled over, coming to a stop in the 3800 block of Hobbs Street.

Emergency medical services transported both male occupants to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver, identified as Ivan Peña, 22, of Pharr, TX, will be charged with Intoxication Assault upon his release from the hospital. The passenger was identified as Peña’s brother.

The investigation remains ongoing.
