Edinburg TX – The City of Edinburg is accepting applications for a Deputy City Attorney to assist the City Attorney in providing legal counsel on all matters pertaining to city business and representing the city in legal actions.
The position serves as legal advisor to the City Council, city boards, and senior city staff. Duties include reviewing, preparing, or assisting in the preparation of agendas, ordinances, resolutions, agreements, contracts, leases, legal opinions, deeds, liens, subpoenas, and city policies. The Deputy City Attorney also drafts legislation pertaining to municipalities, monitors state and federal legislative activity, and represents the city as legal counsel in actions brought by or against the city or against city officials acting in their official capacity.
Pay is commensurate with experience. Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited law school, licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the Texas State Bar
- Five years of experience as a practicing attorney; five years in a related field preferred
- Must hold a current valid Class C driver’s license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
