Edinburg TX – During the Dec. 9th Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees meetring, administrators briefed trustees on a series of construction and safety projects now underway across the district, including window-film installation, major roofing work and new multi-use athletic facilities at all four high schools.
Maintenance and Operations Director Julie Perez reported that contractors began installing 8-millimeter shatter-resistant window film on Nov. 8 and have already completed work at 30 campuses. The project, funded by a state safety grant, is being carried out by Le Wolf Window Tint and Film Solutions of Magnolia, Texas, with two crews working Monday through Sunday alongside district maintenance staff. The goal is to finish all campuses by Dec. 31, with punch-list corrections handled before the crews leave.
Perez and trustees stressed that the film is a deterrent that slows entry and reduces glass hazards, but does not make windows bulletproof. Principals are being reminded to maintain strict access-control procedures and continue active monitoring at front entrances.
Facilities Director Jose Luis Alvarado provided an update on roof improvements at Canterbury and Cavazos elementary schools, a $1.36 million project involving spray-foam overlays and elastomeric coating systems. Work at both campuses is roughly 90 percent complete, with final completion expected in early January. District staff will conduct inspections and punch lists to ensure HVAC and drainage components remain accessible.
Alvarado also highlighted new multi-use athletic buildings under construction at Edinburg, Edinburg North, Economedes and Robert Vela high schools. The $2.2 million project will add air-conditioned, open-floor spaces designed for wrestling teams during season and for groups such as band auxiliaries, ROTC and football in the off-season. At Edinburg High, the foundation is complete and steel framing has begun, putting the site at about 55 percent completion. Edinburg North’s concrete foundation is finished, with the steel structure scheduled for delivery; that campus is about 40 percent complete. Final completion across all four sites is targeted for Jan. 19, 2026, weather permitting.
Trustees praised the level of detail in the construction updates and asked that similar reports be provided for future projects, along with opportunities for board members and the public to tour completed facilities.
