Edinburg to offer free prostate cancer screenings at wellness event

Staff Report

EDINBURG TX – The City of Edinburg, in partnership with several local health organizations, will host a Prostate Cancer Wellness Event on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, at the Edinburg Activities, Culture & Events (ACE) Center.

The free event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 315 W. McIntyre St. and will include prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing, blood pressure screenings and other wellness checks while supplies last.

A featured panel discussion will include Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. and a urologist, who will provide information on prostate health, early detection and available resources.

The event comes months after Garza announced his prostate cancer diagnosis in January and his decision not to seek re-election to focus on treatment and recovery. Since then, he has encouraged open dialogue about men’s health and urged men, particularly those age 40 and older or with a family history of prostate cancer, to pursue regular screenings.
