STISD to continue serving free meals to all students for 2025-26 school year

MERCEDES TX – South Texas Independent School District (STISD) will once again provide free breakfast and lunch to all students during the 2025-26 school year under the Community Eligibility Program.
Breakfast will be served daily in first-period classrooms from 8 to 8:20 a.m., beginning on the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 18. While parents and guardians will still be required to complete an income survey through the district’s electronic registration system, all students will qualify for free meals.
STISD operates seven schools, including campuses in Mercedes, Olmito, Edinburg and San Benito, as well as a fully virtual academy.
