Edinburg appoints Deputy Fire Chief Ubaldo Perez as Interim Fire Chief 

Edinburg, TX, May 9, 2023 – The Edinburg Fire Department announced the appointment of Deputy Chief Ubaldo Perez as Interim Fire Chief, following the unexpected passing of Fire Chief Shawn M. Snider. With over three decades of service, Deputy Chief Perez is a highly experienced and dedicated veteran of the department who brings exceptional leadership skills to his new role.

“It is with great honor and humility that I accept this appointment,” Chief Perez said. “I am committed to upholding the legacy of Chief Snider and leading the Edinburg Fire Department with the utmost professionalism, dedication, and compassion.”

Deputy Chief Perez joined the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department in May of 1990 and has worked his way up the ranks, serving as firefighter, lieutenant, captain, and volunteer assistant chief before being promoted to Deputy Chief in charge of training on January 22, 2001. Throughout his career, Chief Perez has been an integral part of the Edinburg Fire Department and has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to public safety and service.

With his appointment as Interim Fire Chief, effective immediately, Chief Perez assumes the responsibility of overseeing the department’s daily operations. He will work closely with his team to maintain the highest standards of emergency response, fire prevention, and community education. Additionally, Chief Perez will serve as the city’s Emergency Management Coordinator.
