About the Edinburg World Birding Center

The Edinburg World Birding Center and Scenic Wetlands opened in March 2003 as the first of nine World Birding Centers in the Rio Grande Valley. The 40-acre urban wildlife site sits just off Raul Longoria Road, adjacent to the city’s municipal park.

The center features approximately 2.5 miles of walking trails through gardens and ponds, as well as an interpretive center focused on wetlands, birds, butterflies and dragonflies. Managed through the Edinburg Parks & Recreation Department, the center serves as both a regional destination for birders and a community education hub. Hundreds of Edinburg students visit the center annually through programs coordinated with the local school district. It also offers family and adult programs and summer camps.
