Stephen F. Austin Elementary Named Lone Star Ribbon School for Academic Excellence

Edinburg TX – Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District announced that Stephen F. Austin Elementary School has been named one of only 25 public schools in Texas to receive the Lone Star Ribbon School designation, recognizing outstanding academic achievement and student success.
ECISD Superintendent Dr. Angela Dominguez said the recognition reflects the work of the entire school community. “Being named a Lone Star Ribbon School is an extraordinary honor for Austin Elementary and for all of Edinburg CISD,” Dominguez said. “This recognition represents much more than strong academic results. It reflects a school community where students are achieving at high levels, educators are committed to excellence, and every child is given the opportunity to succeed. We are incredibly proud of our students, teachers, staff and families whose hard work and dedication made this achievement possible.”
The Lone Star Ribbon Schools program was established in 2025 by Gov. Greg Abbott to recognize high-performing Texas public schools that demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and progress in closing achievement gaps. Campuses selected for the designation must earn an overall “A” accountability rating, demonstrate strong performance across accountability domains, and show consistent student success on state assessments.
Gov. Abbott said the recognition reflects the state’s commitment to education. “Young Texans are the future of our state, and it is critical that they have access to a high-quality education,” Abbott said. “We will invest in the students, teachers, staff, and parents who are essential to building a bigger, brighter Texas for generations to come.”
The designation adds to a history of academic excellence at Stephen F. Austin Elementary, which received the National Blue Ribbon School recognition from the U.S. Department of Education in 2017.
