Edinburg man arrested on stalking charge, resigns from sheriff’s office position

Edinburg, TX – The Edinburg Police Department arrested Lathan Lee Sanchez on Feb. 27, 2026, following an investigation into repeated harassment that had reportedly been occurring since January.

Investigation details

According to officers, Sanchez went to the victim’s workplace, approached the victim’s vehicle and repeatedly called the victim’s phone after being ignored. The victim told officers Sanchez refused to leave and stated he would wait for hours. The victim also reported that Sanchez lifted his shirt and allegedly revealed a handgun.

Police said the suspect continued contacting the victim by phone as the victim attempted to get away. Based on the reported conduct, officers determined there was probable cause to take Sanchez into custody on a stalking charge. The investigation remains ongoing.

Employment status

Sanchez was employed as a detention officer with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and resigned Feb. 27, 2026, in lieu of termination.
