City of Edinburg announces 13 honorees for 2026 Hometown of Heroes Half-Marathon

Edinburg, TX – The City of Edinburg has announced the 13 community members selected as “Hometown Heroes” for the 2026 Hometown of Heroes Half-Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, March 8.
The honorees were recognized during a press conference held Feb. 26 at the Edinburg Arts, Culture, and Events Center. Each individual will represent a mile marker along the 13-mile race route, with their names displayed during the event.
Honorees selected
The 2026 honorees are Richard Alamia, Rudy de la Viña, Joe Filoteo, Heberto “Beto” Garza, Omar Govea, Judge Homer Jasso Sr., Elias Longoria Jr., Joaquin D. Lozano, Andy Piñeda, Eloy Pulido, Rolland Hugh Pursley, Leo Reyes and Dr. Alejo Salinas.
According to the city, the honorees were selected for their contributions to Edinburg in areas including public service, education, military service, athletics and community involvement.
Among those recognized are former mayors, educators, veterans, longtime public servants and volunteer coaches. Several honorees have served in elected office, on local boards and committees, or in leadership roles within public institutions and nonprofit organizations.
Event details
The Hometown of Heroes Half-Marathon will take place March 8. Following the race, the mile markers bearing each honoree’s name will be presented to their families.
