Edinburg, TX – Cavender’s Boot City plans to open a new retail location in Edinburg, bringing an estimated $5 million investment and approximately 15 full-time jobs to the city, according to the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation.
Project location and investment
The new store will be located at 2820 W. University Drive, at the former CVS site. Cavender’s Boot City and Whitco PGP Properties A, L.P. purchased the property and plan to develop the site with facility improvements and infrastructure upgrades. City officials said the project represents an estimated $5 million total investment.
Economic impact
The store is expected to generate more than $4 million in annual retail sales during its first five years of operation, according to projections provided by the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation. City officials said the added sales activity is expected to contribute to Edinburg’s sales tax base.
The location is along the W. University Drive corridor near The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, one of the city’s most active commercial areas.
Statements from city and company leaders
Aaron Rivera, president of the Edinburg EDC Board, said the project reflects continued retail growth in the city. “This investment shows the confidence that major retailers have in our community’s growth and potential,” Rivera said, adding that the project will expand shopping options and create local jobs.
Mike Cavender, owner of Cavender Stores LP, said the company is looking forward to serving customers in the Edinburg area. “The Rio Grande Valley has a strong western heritage, and we look forward to serving families in Edinburg and surrounding areas,” Cavender said.
