Tamale fundraiser aims to help feed 750 Hidalgo County families

Staff Report

Edinburg, TX – El Mesón Community Kitchen, in partnership with the AltaCair Foundation, is organizing a holiday tamale fundraiser to help feed an estimated 750 families across Hidalgo County this season.

The effort will provide 70 dozen chicken tamales with salad plates for distribution, according to organizers. Community support is being sought in the form of food donations and monetary contributions to cover the cost of ingredients and preparation.

The group’s wish list includes corn husks, 60 pounds of red chile, 70 pounds of prepared masa, seven gallons of salsa, 130 pounds of boneless chicken, two boxes of tomatoes, one box of cabbage and a sack of onions.

Residents can help by donating any of the requested items, making a financial contribution or sharing the fundraiser information with friends and family to broaden community support. Organizers said all contributions will go directly toward preparing meals for local households facing food insecurity during the holidays.
